The Charleston County Sheriff's Office charged a 7-year-old boy through a *custodial promise of carrying a weapon on school property and interfering with a school.  The child brought a bb gun on to a school bus.

According to the sheriff's office, the Minnie Hughes Elementary student had the BB gun when he boarded the bus Thursday morning. An older student took the BB gun from the 7-year-old and gave it the bus driver.  The child was released to his legal guardian.

*A custodial promise is an informal type of arrest as it relates to the juvenile justice system.  It is a process that allow law enforcement to release the child back in to the custody of the parent or legal guardian with the understanding that the parent or legal guardian is required to bring the child to family court.
