Charleston - A local homeless shelter is expanding due to increased need here in Charleston and they need your help.

Crises ministries say they are projecting the growth in the future homeless population to come from families and veterans.
They are now adding on to their downtown facility to keep up with that growth.

Donovan Mitcham and his mother Donna call the back of a church in Summerville home.
Father Anastassi has allowed them to stay while they get back on their feet after losing their house.
He's says he's very grateful for this angel.
Donovan Mitcham, formerly homeless, "If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here."

But not everyone who has fallen on hard times has shelter and help. That's where Crisis Ministries steps in.
Leaders there say living in rural areas like Summerville can be a challenge with public transportation to get the resources many homeless people need.

Stacey Denaux, Crisis Ministries, "What we have started to do just this week is bringing the women of the facility that are staying with us and Summerville to our downtown campus this allows them more fully to participate in education and employment programs better access to legal services access to case managers and housing counselors all the things we can do to help someone not need us anymore"

These buildings under construction today will not only be the future home of Charleston's homeless population, built to handle the capacity they are projecting, but a brighter future for many who will leave here.
