From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:

A Folly Beach City Councilman says he has retained legal counsel after learning that he may be censured during an upcoming meeting.

Folly Beach City Council will take up a resolution to censure Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Ellis. Ellis says he does not regret being a vocal opposition on various issues to Mayor Tim Goodwin and other council members.

Through the resolution, members of council seek to censure Ellis for misconduct and remove him from his position as Mayor Pro Tem.

According to the resolution filed by five members of council, Councilman Ellis has harassed his fellow members of Council as well as members of the Folly Beach general public by making obscene hand gestures, using foul language and making late night phone calls to intimidate, harass or threaten council members and citizens.  According to the resolution,  Ellis also physically and verbally threatened every member of Council as well as their spouses.

Ellis told News 2 the interactions have been "spirited" and hired attorney Tommy Goldstein.

Folly Beach City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday, July 23 at 7 PM at Folly Beach City Hall. During the meeting, Ellis will have the opportunity to defend himself.
