The Dorchester County coroner reported the first flu death of the year, Wednesday morning.

"The patient was transported from his home to a local area hospital where he later died at the emergency room", said Coroner Christ Nisbet. "He suffered for about a week prior to his death, initially complaining of chest congestion and difficulty breathing according to family members."

The 39-year-old, unidentified man contracted Strain B Influenza and died from respiratory failure due to Pneumonia. Nisbet did not provide information about when the man died.

Nisbet urged anyone experience flu-like symptoms to see a doctor.
