One room will have a residential sprinkler system.  The other will not.

According to the fire department spokesperson, the side by side is the construction of two rooms similarly furnished.  The first is allowed to burn to flashover, simulating what happens in a residential fire.

The second is protected by a residential sprinkler.

"The fusible link for a residence is designed to go off at approximately 180 degrees, allowing about eight gallons a minute of water to pour onto the fire. The design allows the resident more time to escape a burning home and may extinguish the fire outright," Bianca Sancic, spokesperson, explained.

The fire demonstration is Wednesday at 5:00 PM at the Fire Museum in North Charleston.
