From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:
Tropical Storm Humberto has formed in the far eastern Atlantic, about 145 miles south of the Cape Verde Islands. Further organization of this storm is expected through the next several days. Humberto is expected to become the first hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic season.
"Humberto poses absolutely no threat to the United States and likely never will," said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers just before the start of News 2 Today. "This one won't be our storm, but it will be a large storm, and it will likely be a hurricane in a day or two."
There are several tropical waves poised to roll off of the African continent over the coming days which will be monitored carefully.
"We also need to keep our eyes on the Caribbean, Gulf, and even off of our own coastline as this year's pattern is subject to produce development in these areas," added Marthers.
