Several fire crews responded to Ladson Wood Recycling at 9421 Highway 78 around 1:30pm Thursday afternoon. News 2 is told the fire sparked while wood was being shredded into mulch.
There were no serious injuries, although 4 firefighters had to be taken to the hospital Thursday as a precaution for heat related issues. At the time of the response the temperature ranged in the upper 90's.
North Charleston was the lead department during the response. Spokesperson Bianca Bourbeau said the fire was contained to one pile and there were no public health concerns.
