Police in Moncks Corner say they pulled over a pick-up truck on December 9th that was dragging a dog from its bumper.

An officer noticed the dog being dragged when the suspect made a turn on Bonnoitt Street around 7:30 Monday evening.

Police say after they pulled over the suspect, 31-year old Benjamin Gathers of Cross, they checked on the dog and determined it was dead. The dog also had a rope around its neck that was tied to the back of Gathers' truck.

Police say when they questioned Gathers he said the dog had ran away and when he found it he tied it to the truck but he forgot it was there before driving.

Police arrested Gathers on the scene for animal cruelty.
