Thursday marks the annual observance of the National Day of Prayer.

Congress created the day back in 1952 in an effort to invite people of all faiths to use the first Thursday in may as a day of reflection

The National Day of Prayer Task Force says 40,000 prayer gatherings are planned nationwide, including a national observance in the U.S. Capitol complex featuring members of Congress,

 Among the thousands of events across the country, several are also planned here in the Lowcountry.
