JOHNS ISLAND, SC - Friday January 17, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Carlton L. Solomon in the January 11 home invasion that resulted in the shooting death of Donetta Heyward.

Saturday morning Solomon was given $100,000 bail for a possession of a weapon charge, but the judge cannot give bail for murder, therefore he remains behind bars.

On January 11, 2014, at approximately 2:38 a.m., Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 3786 Greenland Road in Charleston, to investigate a report of a home invasion and shooting incident. When police arrive at the scene they were met by a male victim who stated that three black males with guns kicked in the back door to their residence and assaulted him and a female victim.

While the male victim was being struck in the head by one of the suspects, the female victim was taken outside by the other suspects. The suspects asked the victims, “where is the money”, according to deputies. The male victim stated that he heard 2 – 3 gunshots on the outside of the residence. A few seconds later, the female victim entered the residence and told him that she had been shot. Shortly, thereafter, the suspects fled the scene. The female victim was transported to MUSC, where she later was pronounced deceased. The male victim was also transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was treated for his head injuries and later released.

Deputies are still looking for two other victims but have not released descriptions of them to the media.
