One man is dead in Walterboro after a Thursday night shooting.

Walterboro Public Safety Interim Chief Ken Dasen says authorities responded to 203 Chaplin Street around 8:35 Thursday night for a shooting.

While officials were on the way to the scene, a caller stated he was inside the residence when he heard three shots fired and fled the house to call 911.

When officials arrived, a man was found lying in the doorway unresponsive with an apparent gun shot wound to the head.

SLED was notified and took over the investigation. The 911 caller was taken to city hall to be interviewed by detectives.

The victim has been identified as 65 year old, James Mitchell of Walterboro. There are no suspects identified at this time and no further information available.
