From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:
It's only been around three years, but Santee Cooper's Celebrate the Season has become an annual not-to-miss event in Berkeley County.
On Monday, you could see work taking place everywhere at the Santee Cooper campus in Moncks Corner.
Brad Sale is the Environmental Education Coordinator at Old Santee Canal Park. "We really start decorating in September. So we're outside in shirts and Tshirts hanging Christmas lights."
Thousands of energy efficient LED lights are being put in place for Berkeley County's biggest annual drive through Christmas light show.
Angie Hood has worked at Santee Cooper for 21 years. "I have nieces and nephews that I like to bring to the holiday lights. We come at least two or three times while they're up and running because it's so affordable."
It only costs $5 per car to drive through. The drive takes you through the entrance of Santee Cooper to Old Santee Canal Park.
Sale said, "we're really excited about this event. It's probably our biggest event. This is only our third year, but it's grown exponentially every year that we've had it."
Nicole Aiello is the Director of Public Relations at Santee Cooper. "On the weekends we've got the holiday fairs. There are crafts, visits with Santa Claus, tons of stuff for kids to do. You can roast marshmallows. It's great family event for you to bring kids to."
This year there will be guaranteed snow-fall for the kids during the weekend holiday fair. It will be an impressive display that can become a new family tradition.
Celebrate the Season is a fundraiser. Over the last two years, it has raised more than $184,000 for Berkeley County Charities.
There is also a fun run to kick off the festivities on November 23rd. Click on Old Santee Canal's website for more details. Celebratetheseason.oldsanteecanalpark.org.
