The man wanted for the murder of a woman celebrating her 23rd birthday at a club in St. George, is behind bars.
According to the Colleton County Sheriff's Office, deputies worked with S.W.A.T, SLED, and the U.S. Marshal's Service to arrest 20-year-old Dashaawn Brown at a home near Walterboro Tuesday night.
Cheif Deputy Ted Stanfield said in an email to News 2, Brown did not come out of the home willingly.
"When law enforcement arrived and surrounded the residence, occupants came out and told the officers that Deshawn Brown was indeed in the residence", said Stanfield. "After Brown refused to come out voluntarily, a search warrant was obtained and entry was made where Brown was found hiding in a back bedroom between mattresses. Subject was taken into custody and Dorchester County Sheriff's Office was notified and took custody of Brown."
Brown is a suspect in the shooting of three people at the Starlight Lounge in St. George back on July 14. Three people were wounded, including Sierra Truesdale. Medics pronounced Truesdale dead at the scene.
"I am proud that law enforcement agencies worked together to take such a fugitive charged with murder into custody, especially after observing how our Sheriff's Office SWAT team methodically performed to bring this incident to a peaceful end. In what could have been a violent situation, their many hours of training paid off and no one was injured. I am confident that they could have handled any threat they may have encountered" said Sheriff Strickland.
Brown is expected to be in court for a bond hearing Wednesday.
