From our News Partner at www.counton2.com:

East Bay Street is closed right now as Charleston Police, Fire, and EMS investigate a suspicious package sent to 40 East Bay St.

The package was deemed non-explosive, and further tests are being completed to determine if the package contains any dangerous substances.

"Everything we do is way overboard on the side of safety," hazmat officials say.

According to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis, "Officials responded to that location about 8 a.m. after dispatch received a call about a letter there with white powder inside".

The address is home to the Historic Charleston Foundation.

East Bay Street from Waters to 50 East Bay is shut down to traffic.
