BERKELEY COUNTY, SC - A woman is behind bars Monday night after Berkeley County Deputies say she shot her husband after argument.

Authorities said they responded to Winnow Court around 9 p.m. Sunday to find a man lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was able to tell deputies Shelly Taylor shot him. When authorities confronted Taylor about the shooting, she admitted that she shot him, saying she was tired of him putting his hands on her.

No one answered the door Monday afternoon, but neighbors said they heard the couple arguing before.

"You've heard them argue a few times through the garage door," Chad Perkins said. "It seemed kind of weird. Usually when couples fight, they argue inside, but a lot of times they go in the garage with the door halfway up and you'd hear their arguments."

In fact, Berkeley County deputies said they responded to the home three times before Sunday's incident. In all incidents, Taylor told authorities the pair had been drinking. In July, Taylor told authorities her husband put his hand on her, but when police went to file charges, she refused to give them his name.

It was not until the third time authorities responded that they found bruises on Taylor and issued a warrant for her husband's arrest. He was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence in October. His case has yet to go to trial, according to authorities.

While the pair does appear to have a violent past, Perkins said the fights never appeared to escalate to a worrisome level.  He said no one in the small cul-de-sac even heard the gunshot Sunday night.

"I never heard anything violent with them like that, "he said. "Afterwards you heard there was a gunshot, and I was like 'wow, I didn't even hear a gunshot.' It's one of the those things you don't expect to happen."

Taylor was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a crime. She received a $55,000 bond and will face a judge again in June.
