Police: Woman climbs Angel Oak, screams obscenities

Charleston Police say a woman has been taken to the hospital for evaluation after she climbed the Angel Oak and screamed obscenities Sunday.

Police say they arrived at the park around 11 a.m. to find the woman already in the tree after apparently climbing the fence. The park was closed at the time.

According to police, the woman initially refused to come out of the tree, and even climbed higher. She was on a limb roughly 35 feet above the ground at one point, police say.

After several hours, police say they established a rapport with the woman, and were able to coax her to climb down on a ladder around 4 p.m. The woman was not injured.
