West Ashley, S.C. (WCIV) — The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) is permanently closing its Ashley Oaks location at 1119-K Wappoo Rd. on Friday, June 22 at 5 p.m.
The landlord did not renew the lease and the growing number of customers caused a limitation of parking, according to the SCDMV.
The SCDMV is actively searching for an office to reopen the services comparable to the Wappoo Road location.
The other SCDMV branches on Leeds Avenue, Lockwood Boulevard and Sweetgrass Basket Parkway in Mount Pleasant will continue their service and will hire workers being displaced from the Wappoo Road location.
The Community Action Response and Emergency Services (CARES) mobile unit will expand on Leeds Avenue with five additional counter stations in the office’s parking lot.
The vehicle can complete most of the same transactions as a brick-and-mortar branch.
This mobile unit is just as secure as the agency’s offices, and customers should experience no disruption in normal service.
