3 killed after car hits alligator

Holly Hill, S.C. (WCIV) — The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has identified the people fatally wounded in a car accident that occurred about 1 a.m. on Monday, May 7 near mile marker 86 on I-95 NB near Holly Hill, SC.

S.C. Highway Patrol says a 2011 Kia Soul was traveling on I-95 near the I-26 interchange at mile-marker 86 when the vehicle struck an animal in the roadway, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

 Amber Stanley, 24, along with her 4-year-old son Jack and her 2-year-old daughter Autumn of Callahan, Florida, all died of thermal injuries due to the vehicle fire.

The coroner said the incident started when Mrs. Stanley struck an alligator that was crossing I-95.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
