Wando High School senior dies after crashing motorcycle

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. (WCIV) — Mount Pleasant Police say a motorcyclist died after an accident on Highway 17 Tuesday morning.

The principal at Wando High School announced in a phone blast to parents Tuesday afternoon that the victim was a male high school senior student.

A crisis response team will be at the school today and tomorrow, the principal stated in the message.

Officers say they responded to the accident on Highway 17 North near Carolina Park Blvd. at around 8:30 a.m.

Investigators say their initial examination showed that a motorcyclist was heading north on Highway 17 when the driver swerved to avoid stopped traffic.

While trying to stop, the motorcyclist sideswiped another vehicle and was ejected.

Mount Pleasant Police say the motorcyclist died on scene.

The motorcyclist's name has not been released.
