St. George, S.C. (WCIV) — A grandfather has been arrested for bringing a gun to St. George Middle School during school pickup and running towards the vehicle that his ex-son-in-law was driving.
Edward Hill, 74, was booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center on Monday for the Friday incident.
According to a police report, the school resource officer confronted Hill and determined that he was trying to stop his ex-son-in-law from picking up his grandchild from school because there is a custody issue.
When Hill was unable to catch up with his ex son-in-law’s vehicle, he put the gun back into his car and went inside to confront the school staff, the report states.
The police report notes that Hill struck a parked car in the parking lot of the school when he arrived on campus, causing significant damage.
The school resource officer located and secured the weapon.
Hill has been charged with carrying a weapon on school property, assault and battery second degree and disturbing schools. Bond was set by the Dorchester County Magistrate Court.
