North Charleston, S.C. (WCIV) — On Tuesday in North Charleston, a bench was dedicated to police officers who died while serving their community.
The bench was provided by the Charleston Animal Society and it was placed outside of its animal care campus.
The bench reads, "In honor of all national peace officers, human and canine, who served this great nation."
This week is National Police Week, with Tuesday being National Peace Officer Day.
Jay Zealberg with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, who attended the unveiling ceremony for the bench, said, "I think it's really nice to have a memento to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and we really appreciate the thoughtfulness behind that."
