Texas Homeowner Fatally Shoots Teen Who Was Firing Paintballs At His House

Authorities in Texas say that a Houston homeowner fatally shot a 19-year-old who was part of a group of about a dozen teens who started shooting paintballs at his house. Police say the family heard the sounds of the paintballs hitting their home and believed the group was firing real guns.

The homeowner, who has not been identified, walked outside to confront the group of about a dozen teenagers and opened fire, striking the 19-year-old. He also fired a few rounds at the teen's car as he fled the scene.

"They believed that they were — that their house was being shot at," Sgt. Joshua Horn with the Houston Police Department told KHOU. "The homeowner, the father, came outside to the disturbance, approached a suspect who was standing out here. Believed that he was a threat, fearing for his safety, fired a round at him."

Police think the group was targeting the homeowner's 17-year-old son but did not say why the large group of teens decided to vandalize the house. The homeowner, his son, and three others have been detained but officials have not charged anybody and are continuing their investigation.
