The difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day - Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday in May, honors the men and women who died while serving in the military. Veterans Day, observed every November 11, recognizes all who have served in the Armed Forces.
Happening Today: Saturday + Sunday Memorial flag placements and services happening across the lowcountry
See below for details of just a few local events like American Legion Post 145 in Hollywood, who's meeting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, 5/29, at 6328 Route 162 to place flags at six or seven different cemeteries around Megget, Hollywood and Ravenel.
I'll be joining the James Island VFW Post 445 crew at Holy Cross Cemetery to place flags on the graves of area fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. Their event ends with at the Post on Folly Rd. at Camp Rd. with hot dogs, baked beans and maybe french fries (they tell me!)
A heartfelt Memorial Message from 94.3 WSC listener Tim, who's a Military Veteran:
"On this Memorial Day weekend, I reflect upon those who I personally knew, drank beer with, flew with. They made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this great country. To each and everyone of them, I pray that God has received you in His kingdom. Thank you! We all owe a great debt to you and many more who have made that sacrifice!. Only through the sacrifice of people like you will this country remain free; freedom comes at a great cost and you willingly paid that price."
