Police swept through the University of California Los Angeles campus overnight, as protests against the Israel-Hamas war roil schools across the country. The police say they were asked by the school to restore order as violence was breaking out between anti-war and pro-Israel demonstrators. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass posted on social media that the violence is "absolutely abhorrent and inexcusable."
Meanwhile, police are sorting out a large number of arrests after they cleared out a building on Columbia University overnight that was taken over by pro Palestinian protesters.
Some college and university graduations have already been cancelled.
