Rush Limbaugh: Career Highlights of the Man Behind the Golden EIB Mic

Rush Limbaugh, “America’s Anchorman,” is known as the man who saved AM radio. Rush revolutionized the media and political landscape with his unprecedented combination of serious discussion of political, cultural and social issues along with satirical and biting humor.

Fired as a DJ seven times, Rush never gave up on his dream of hosting America’s number one radio show. In 1988, he launched his phenomenally successful broadcast, The Rush Limbaugh Show, into national syndication with 56 radio stations. Now, 33 years later, the show is heard on more than 600 stations.

Rush’s show became the platform that made him the leader of modern-day conservatism in the United States. In 1994, Rush was made an honorary member of the 104th Congress after he was credited with helping Republicans regain control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.

Rush hosted a syndicated half-hour television show from 1992 through 1996 that was a forerunner to many of the politics and news-oriented comedy shows that now dominate the late-night TV. Rush made his mark on pop culture with appearances on The Tonight Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, as well as network sitcoms The Drew Carey Show, Family Guy and others. He was a judge at the 2010 Miss America Pageant.

He wrote seven books, all New York Times bestsellers, including The Way Things Ought to Be and See, I Told You So, and his children’s series: The Adventures of Rush Revere. In 2014, he was named Children’s Choice Author of the Year.

His wedding to wife Kathryn in 2010 garnered international interest when his friend, music icon Elton John, performed.

In 2020, at the State of the Union Address, President Donald Trump awarded Rush the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation’s highest civilian honor.

Rush received the Marconi Radio Award five times, and has been inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians, the Radio Hall of Fame and the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

His passion inspires millions of Americans to be the best they can be and keeps the country on course to a bright future as The Rush Limbaugh Show continues its dominance as the most-listened-to talk radio program in America.
