Evacuations for Barrier Islands in Colleton, Jasper and Beaufort counties

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster addressed the public on the state's latest plan in response to expected impacts of Hurricane Irma Friday evening. During the press conference the governor spoke to the unpredictable nature of hurricanes and said his decision was to order evacuations for some of the state's barrier islands.

"It's always best to be cautious, because the weather can change," Gov. McMaster said.

Ordered to evacuate were residents of barrier islands in Colleton County, Beaufort County and Jasper County.

Earlier in the day, the governor and other officials said while the storm's track had shifted, there could still be evacuations ordered Saturday morning.

"We could wake up in the mornin' and it could double back on us," Gov. McMaster said.
