While many organizations begin to process the gravity of this whole coronavirus crisis and announce cancellations and postponements, Spoleto Festival USA has decided to call off this years festival. The 17 day international arts event is expensive and complicated when it comes to all of the planning, marketing, and execution that goes into it. The 2020 season was off to an amazing start, as the huge opera production "Omar" was receiving lots of attention and ticket sales were booming. All of this changed once Charleston began passing ordinances limiting the number of individuals allowed at gatherings, thus beginning the conversation of whether or not Spoleto would take place.
Those who purchased tickets to the event can have funds put towards the next event, or receive a refund. The financial impact is significant but is not something they can't recover from!
