Charleston, S.C. (WCIV) — The issue of law enforcement and racial bias has been a talked about issue both nationally and locally.
On Wednesday, the Charleston City Council held a public meeting at the Gilliard Center to discuss conducting a racial bias audit for the Charleston Police Department. It's a move that the Charleston Area Justice Ministry has been calling for.
The city wants to have an audit of it's police department to find where the department stands in terms of racial bias. The audit terms decided upon today will look back at the past five years and study all data, incidents, complaints and policies related to racial bias.
District nine council member Peter Shahid Jr, says " We've given the city what we want for them to send out as a bid. If everything goes according to plan, we may have a contract available for City Council consideration at it's July meeting."
