CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - As Hurricane Florence heads toward the eastern U.S. for an anticipated Thursday landfall, Lowcountry school districts and colleges are keeping an eye on the forecast.
But none has announced plans to cancel classes as of Sunday.
The Charleston County School District is "closely monitoring Hurricane Florence and its potential impact to Charleston," a post on its Twitter page states. "We are consulting with local and state officials and will communicate any SCHOOL related information when it becomes available."
Likewise, Berkeley County School District officials say they are working closely with the county's Emergency Preparedness Division and are receiving regular updates about Florence and its potential impact.
Beaufort County officials said no decision on evacuation has been made there.
The Citadel, Charleston Southern University and the College of Charleston also have posted that they are watching developments but no cancellations or changes to campus activities have been announced.
"If not already done, now would be an excellent time for members of our campus community to verify they have plenty of gas not only in vehicles but gas for any generator equipment, plenty of water and money (cash)," a post on The Citadel's website states.
This is a developing story. We will update this story with any closings or cancellations.
