CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The West Edge community which includes an apartment complex, grocery store and office space has increased the need for change when it comes to the area of the Crosstown.
The city of Charleston is working with engineers to find a feasible blueprint that would improve the street grid and connect the West Edge area to the medical district. Charleston officials hope a Hagood Avenue extension would create more connectivity and walkability to the district. As it stands, there is no set model on what that extension might look like, but it could include more pedestrian signals and sidewalks.
The current study on the feasibility of the project includes a nearly $100,000 simulation model to determine the best way to create the extension. The cost of the study is split between the city, MUSC and the West Edge foundation. It should be completed in roughly nine months.
