Tecklenburg announces re-election bid as Charleston mayor

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - In a letter to supporters Monday morning, Charleston mayor John Tecklenburg announced his intent to run again in 2019.

“In short, we’ve made real progress on the greatest challenges facing our city and our citizens,” he wrote. “But we’re not finished yet. There’s still much critical work to be done. That’s why I’m proud to announce today that I’ll be running for re-election next November and I humbly ask that you join me in this effort.”

He also asked for a $35 donation or more to become a “founding donor” of his campaign.

Tecklenburg replaced former mayor Joe Riley in 2015 after he served 10 terms. He beat out State Rep. Leon Stavrinakis in a runoff election that year with 58 percent of the vote.

According to his most recent campaign disclosures filed in October, Tecklenburg has $259,383.01 on hand for the race.
