CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District is raising starting pay for teachers to about $40,000 a year.
The district approved their budget for next school year which includes $2.5 million for raises for teachers.
The raise was expected and part of the district’s multi-year plan.
“The district will fund implementation of the 2nd year of its multi-year plan to raise starting teacher pay to $40,000,” CCSD officials said in a tweet.
The minimum starting salary for new teachers in 2020 will be $38,897.
According to the district, a four percent salary increase for all teachers will be implemented, plus an average 1.9 percent step-increase.
In addition, a 1.9 percent salary increase will be implemented for eligible full-time staff that are not teachers, plus an average 1.9 percent step increase.
The General Fund budget for the 2019-2020 school year totaled $537,015,665.
