DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Dorchester County District Four schools will dismiss early because of the threat of severe weather on Thursday.

Elementary schools will be released at 11:30 a.m. followed by middle schools at 12:15 p.m. and Woodland High School will be released at 12:30 p.m.

All after school programs have been canceled as well.

The Colleton County School District has canceled after-school events.

“The National Weather Service has issued a forecast predicting severe weather this afternoon/evening in Colleton County,” district spokesman Sean Gruber said in a statement. “A strong line of thunderstorms associated with an approaching cold front could move through our region between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. This line of storms could produce tornadoes, damaging straight-line winds in excess of 58 mph, and heavy rain.”

Based on this NWS forecast and out of an abundance of caution, we will be canceling all after-school activities and events today (February 6).
