We have good news! As of May 1, 2020 Patriot's Point plans to reopen to the public on Friday, May 15. To prepare, their staff has been installing ultraviolet (UV) light air purifiers in all of the air conditioning units aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. UV light deactivates airborne or surface contaminants like mold, bacteria and viruses.
They've also installed more than a dozen new hand sanitizing stations, and have been hard at work stripping and repainting tour routes, ladder wells and open spaces aboard the Fighting Lady.⠀ ⠀
The process includes blowing dirt and dust from the overhead areas, scraping off old paint, and then re-coating the ship bulkheads and decks using the original U.S. Navy soft white, gray or green colors.
"When you feel it is safe to travel again, we hope you will come to visit our museum!" Chris Hauff said.
