D.C. Coverage with Kelly Golden on 94.3 WSC

Save America/Stop the Steal Rally

I strolled the D.C. streets before dawn broadcasting live on 94.3 WSC on Wednesday January 6th, a day of deadly twists that will never be forgotten. In the first three hours of the show, I interviewed just a handful of the thousands of President Trump's supporters that were gathered in a sea of red, white and blue as far as the eye could see, on the Ellipse, a patch of the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the White House, for the #StopTheSteal "Save America" rally.

Many compelling speakers came and went including Vernon Jones, who formally announced he was officially switching parties.

Then noon came ... when President Trump vowed:

"We will never give up. We will never concede. It doesn't happen. You don't concede. Our country is had enough. We will not take it anymore, and that's what this is all about."

In an hour-long speech, Trump revved up the entire crowd. And, close to the end, he pointed toward the Capitol right down Constitution Avenue and said:

"After this, we’re going to walk down there, and I’ll be there with you, we’re going to walk down … to the Capitol and we are going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women."

D.C. Rally Turns Riotous Rally in D.C.

As my group lingered in the freezing cold, waiting for everyone from our bus to find our meeting spot, thousands of others parted for the Capitol. It too so long for our group to get together and start our descent down Constitution Avenue, the streets were practically bare. It wasn't until we were a few blocks away, that cops started swarming from every direction. We picked up our pace, only to be several yards down from the Capitol steps making it extremely difficult to see what was really going on. It was the phone calls, and messages that informed us, the Capitol was breached. Then came the red plumes of tear gas, and the rest is now history.

I couldn’t agree more with our SC AG Alan Wilson who joined me re: D.C. riots on News Radio 94.3 WSC

“Peaceful protests and the expression of political beliefs are fundamentally American. However, violence undermines the intended cause of any protest and should never be tolerated. We must come together as a nation, not fracture in lawlessness.

As I continued to share my experience on-air broadcasting from D.C. across the country for special coverage throughout the night on our bus ride home. Then into the rest of the week. I, along with many others around me struggled to make sense of what people ‘told us’ was happening vs. what we were ‘actually witnessing.’

I DID NOT personally witness the moments when the Capitol was breached. What I DID see was the peaceful, and beautifully diverse joining of people pre/post Capitol storming who clearly fear the trajectory of our nation’s politics and policies, praying, singing (see video) for hours before hand, then some time from the Capitol lawn after.

I’m left mourning not only for the life of a female military veteran lost, and now others, but also I’m broken hearted for the state we find our country in. I’m praying for brighter days everyone and believe many in our country have BEEN ready to heal from the perils of this pandemic, and the most divisive election of my lifetime.

And, to be very clear, I would never knowingly associate or involve myself with anyone willing to plot, plan or carry out an insurrection against the US Government (any suggestion otherwise is flat wrong.)
