Today is the 78th anniversary of D-Day, when Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy. The lowcountry is blessed to be home to the destroyer, USS Laffey (DD-724) that was there!
D-Day was the USS Laffey's first major mission. The destroyer played an important role in screening and bombardment efforts at Utah Beach.
