WASHINGTON (WCSC) - U.S. First District Congresswoman Nancy Mace said a transgender supporter who attacked her on Capitol Hill was arrested. The South Carolina Republican said on X Tuesday night that she was “physically accosted at the Capitol” by a “pro-trans man.”

“Capitol police have arrested him,” she said in the post.

U.S. Capitol Police identified the man as James McIntyre, who faces a charge of assaulting a government official, according to CBS News.

Mace made headlines last week with a new bill that seeks to ban biological men from using women’s restrooms, locker rooms and changing rooms in all federally-funded facilities. The ban would include public schools and universities, national parks, government buildings, healthcare facilities like hospitals and clinics, public housing and shelters and transportation hubs including airports, train stations and bus terminals, a release from her office states.

“We introduced a resolution to stand up for women, and the Left lost their minds. But I’m not here to make them happy—I’m here to protect women and girls,” Mace said in a statement last week. “I’m doubling down with this bill. We’ve worked too hard for safe spaces, and we’re not going to allow them to be erased by unhinged, loud, and far-Left extremists. Men in women’s private spaces is not normal, and it never will be.”

Mace’s office says the new bill was proposed in response to “mounting concerns” from women across the nation “who feel their safety and dignity are being compromised in the name of the Left’s crusade to erase biological women with toxic political correctness.”

She also addressed her injuries, implying they were not severe.

“One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine,” Mace said on X.

She also warned that “trans violence” and threats on her life will only make her “double down,” adding that “all the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe.”

Mace’s district includes parts of Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester and Beaufort Counties, reaching from Hilton Head Island to the Santee River.
