Loaded gun brought to Goose Creek High School; Student arrested

A Goose Creek High School student was arrested Monday afternoon after bringing a loaded gun to school, officials say.

Chief Deputy Mike Cochran with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said there were no students threatened or injured, and that was due in large to a tip from a student.

GCHS administrators and a school resource officer took immediate action after receiving the tip, Berkeley County School District spokesperson Katie Orvin said.

"With safety and security as our highest, priority, we take all reports that pertain to the safety and security of our school seriously," Orvin said. "We appreciate the cooperation and support of students who are helping to keep our school safe."

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is expected to release more information about the arrest Tuesday.

Officials say the student was taken into custody without incident.
