Man charged with DUI in Mathis Ferry accident

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Mount Pleasant Police have arrested a man they said is connected to the serious crash that happened on Mathis Ferry Saturday night.

The suspect, 20-year-old Robert McKinney Leland, is charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.


The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 17 and Mathis Ferry Road around 8 p.m.

Southbound lanes of Highway 17 were closed in the area of Venning and Mount Pleasant Towne Centre , as police redirected traffic.

Leland was granted a $200,000 bond on Monday.
