1 of 3 Mount Pleasant Bi-Lo stores to close by end of January

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Another Bi-Lo store in the Lowcountry will close its doors.

Southeastern Grocers officials confirmed Tuesday the Ben Sawyer Boulevard location in Mount Pleasant will permanently shut its doors later this month.

Frank Archer, Regional Vice President for BI-LO East, said in looking at its underperforming stores they had to make a decision in revamping them or shutting them down.

Archer says the decision was made to shutter the Mount Pleasant store.

"There are approximately 40 associates at this location. We appreciate the many contributions our associates have made, and they were the first to know of this decision. We are pleased to report that placement for every associate is being actively pursued at nearby stores," he said in a statement.

Bi-Lo maintains 14 other stores in the Charleston area and none of those are scheduled to close at this time, including the two Mount Pleasant locations on South Shelmore Boulevard and on Highway 17.

Other locations are in West Ashley, North Charleston, Hanahan, and Johns and James islands.
