CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Coroner's office officials have identified the passenger who died in the crash that partially shut down I-26 eastbound Tuesday.
They said Jason Wisenbaker, a 37-year-old Summerville resident, died on the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
Officers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol were dispatched at around 12:58 p.m. for what they heard was an overturned tractor trailer.
What they found was a fatal crash and a scene that stretched from I-26, through a row of trees and onto the frontage road.
Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed the truck was a 2003 Isuzu box truck. They say it ran off the road and struck a tree.
Troopers said Wisenbaker was a passenger in the truck and he was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the truck was taken to MUSC, and his condition is unknown.
