Bridge run in bomb suits? Joint Base airmen will do it

Six airmen from Joint Base Charleston are prepping to run Saturday’s Bridge run, but they’re throwing in an added challenge by running in a 60-pound bomb suit.

“We like to challenge ourselves,” said Staff Sergeant Kyle Bushey. Though he’s unable to run because of a shoulder injury, he’ll be supporting six fellow airmen donning the bomb suit on Saturday. They’ll each take turns running a segment of the bridge run in the suit, which is worn to protect airmen as they work to diffuse bombs.

“If you don’t fear or respect items you're working with, that can kill you,” Bushey added.

This is the third year airmen from Joint Base Charleston have run in the race.
