Mt. Pleasant, S.C. (WCIV) — BI-LO grocery stores will close in Summerville, North Charleston, Mt. Pleasant and Ladson as parent company Southeastern Grocers looks to reduce its debt in a court-supervised Chapter 11 restructuring agreement.
The company announced Thursday that it will close 94 “under-performing” stores throughout the Southeast under the names BI-LO, Winn-Dixie, Fresco y Más and Harveys.
A total of 19 total stores will close in South Carolina.
“Taking this step was critical to our future and the long-term health of our business,” said the company in a statement.
The Lowcountry stores that will close are:
- BI-LO, 774 South Shelmore Blvd., Mount Pleasant
- BI-LO, 4391 Dorchester Rd., North Charleston
- BI-LO, 1452 Boone Hill Rd., Summerville
- BI-LO, 9616 Hwy 78, Ladson
It was not clear when the stores will officially close their doors.
Southeastern Grocers will continue to operate 582 grocery stores in the Southeast and announced plans to remodel many of the remaining stores.
“Our three-year plan will create stunning, remodeled stores in a significant portion of our footprint,” the company states. “This revitalization will also provide our customers with fresh, new concepts and products.”
