Trident Tech student arrested with AR-15, handgun on campus

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Trident Technical College officials say a student has been arrested with guns on campus.

College officials say a student named Samuel Branton was arrested Wednesday afternoon at TTC's main campus in North Charleston after firearms were discovered in his vehicle.

A spokesperson for the college says an unloaded AR-15 and a loaded handgun were found in Branton's vehicle.

TTC officials say no threats were made to the college or anyone on campus.

Branton was being transported to the Charleston County Detention Center following his arrest, TTC officials say, but online jail records show he had not been booked into the jail as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Charges against Branton are forthcoming from Trident Tech's public safety department, the college says.
