Charleston Police officer resigns after failing drug test

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A six-year veteran of the Charleston Police Department resigned after failing a drug test, the police chief said.

A release from the police department Saturday morning identified the officer as Kevin Carson.

”An officer ended his career with the Charleston Police Department after he tested positive for an illicit drug,” Police Chief Luther Reynolds said.

The test was administered on June 15 and his drug test was returned positive for an illicit drug, police spokesman Charles Francis said. Carson resigned from the department on Tuesday.

The release did not identify the specific drug for which he tested positive.

No criminal charges have been filed against him, Francis said.

Francis said Carson’s cases are being reviewed by the police department.
