CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Drivers can expect to pay an additional two cents per gallon of gas beginning on Sunday.

The state’s motor fuel user fee will increase from 18 cents per gallon, to 20 cents per gallon on July 1.

The tax will continue to increase by two cents per gallon each year until 2022.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the money raised will be used for repairs, maintenance and improvements to the state’s existing transportation system.
