Driver in custody after 11-year-old girl struck by SUV in Downtown CHS

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A driver is in custody after an 11-year-old girl was struck by an SUV in downtown Charleston Monday night. 

Charleston police say officers are on the scene at 118 Rutledge Avenue where the incident occurred. 

According to Charles Francis with CPD, the 11-year-old was transported to MUSC by EMS. 

Dispatch received the initial call at 8:55 p.m

Crime scene tape was seen around the area of Rutledge Avenue and Calhoun Street. 

Authorities were also seen looking at a vehicle that appeared damaged.

CPD Traffic Enforcement Unit officials said the vehicle involved was an SUV and the cause of the collision is under investigation. 

Emergency dispatch said the initial call on the incident was regarding an accident with possible injuries involved.
