Summerville votes down spending $100,000 on snow equipment

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

The Town of Summerville voted down buying more than $100,000 worth of snow equipment during a Town Council meeting Monday night.

Five snow plows and five salt spray tanks were being considered for purchase.

According to the agenda, five snow plows would cost $61,441.54 and five salt spray tanks would cost $41,392.95.

The discussion came after Town Council voted to postpone its decision of making the purchase back in April.

During April’s discussion of purchasing snow equipment, several council members raised concerns about whether spending more than $100,000 in equipment would be financially responsible.

A spokesperson from the town of Summerville said in an email the director of Public Works expected the purchase to be voted down or tabled until another meeting.

North Charleston has no snow plows or salt trucks.

A spokesperson from the City of Charleston said the city is in the process of getting two snow plows.
