EDISTO BEACH, SC (WCSC) -
Edisto Beach is facing a federal lawsuit after town council recently banned worship services at the town's civic center.
The group called Alliance Defending Freedom filed the lawsuit Monday on behalf of Redeemer Fellowship of Edisto Island.
It details how the church has outgrown its current meeting space and started to rent out the Civic Center for a couple of services in April and May.
But when it requested to rent it again, the lawsuit says the town voted to reject the application, and change the rules so all rentals for religious worship services were banned.
The lawsuit filed on Monday challenges the new policy.
