Folly Beach to restrict access on Wednesday ahead of Hurricane Florence

FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) -

The City of Folly Beach will limit access to Folly Beach ahead of Hurricane Florence.

According to a news release, access to Folly Beach will be restricted beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Only residents, essential business employees (with red or yellow pass), property manager/realtor/broker with state license, and contractors with current Folly Beach business license stickers will be permitted.

The city will move to OPCON 2 on Wednesday, with full activation of its Municipal Emergency Operations Center beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Here's information for people who live on Folly Beach:

  • Bags for sandbags for Folly Beach residents and properties are available at Public Safety at 106 W Cooper Street – each property is limited to 10 bags. Please bring your own shovel, pick up bags from Public Safety, and fill them at the boat landing. Please do not remove any sand from the beach.
  • City Hall will close at noon on Wednesday and the City Council and Planning Commission meetings are canceled.
  • The Citizen Information Line will be active for questions starting at noon on Wednedsay at 843-588-7006.
  • The city asks that you do not put yard debris or roll carts out until after the storm passes.
  • Renourishment has stopped pending the storm, and crews have removed pipes from the beach.

For residents who plan on returning to Folly Beach you must have the following:

  • Residents and property owners must bring two forms of identification showing residency or ownership (driver’s license, utility bill, deed, tax bill, lease, etc).
  • Property managers, realtors, and brokers must have proof of state license and City of Folly Beach business license
  • Employees of local businesses must have numbered reentry pass issued by the City and employee credentials
  • Contractors with a Folly Beach business license will be permitted prior to the storm, and in a later phase of re-entry after the storm.
  • Anyone in need of a shelter should report to the Charleston County emergency transportation points.
